For Organizations

We know that healthy foods and physical activity are the keys to preventing excessive weight gain in childhood. Prevention is the key to combating the childhood obesity epidemic. Kohl’s Cares Keeping Kids Healthy Program and Cohen Children’s Medical Center provides local communities educational tools to help prevent childhood obesity.

Our educators are available to provide hands-on programs to community organizations that highlight the importance of healthy eating and exercise. Some of the programs that we have offered at health fairs and community events are:

  • Make a Plate placemats - Children create a healthy plate placemat with foods from all food groups. Every time they sit at the table they are reminded of what their plate should look like.
  • Interactive Games – Power point games of “Jeopardy” and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” provide a fun way of learning for children. These games highlight the importance of nutrition and exercise in a fun and engaging way.
  • Whoa … Go… Slow… Game - teaches children nutritional value of foods. Whoa = foods to avoid, Go = foods that are great for you, Slow = take it easy on those foods.
  • “Hands on” Healthy Food - Children assemble their own plate from our picnic basket of lifelike healthy food models. They learn portion sizes, good choices and how to create a healthy plate.
  • Wheel of Healthy Eating and Fitness – Spin the wheel, answer the question about healthy foods and fitness and win a prize.
